Fluorescence is the effect that ultraviolet (UV) light has on a diamond. Fluorescence is the visible light/glow that a diamond emits when it is exposed to the UV rays.

Fluorescence refers to the strength/ intensity, of the diamond’s reaction to long-wave UV. In more than 95% of the diamonds that exhibit fluorescence, the visible color is blue. In rare instances, the reaction to fluorescence is yellow, white or another color.

For the overwhelming majority of diamonds, the strength of fluorescence has no widely noticeable effect on appearance.

Precious metals include gold, silver, platinum and platinum group metals, which are palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium. Pure gold is called 24K (karat) gold or marked as "999.9".

Gold jewelers use terms such as “375/9K,” “585/14k” or “750/18K” to refer the respective base alloy of gold and other precious metals

Diamond symmetry refers to the arrangement and conformity of facets in a finished diamond.

Symmetry is graded on a scale from Excellent to Poor based on the presence and visibility of symmetry deviations at 10x magnification.

After a diamond is cut, the cutter will finish the stone to achieve a smooth, glass-like surface. The quality of this work is known as diamond polish.

Polish is graded on a scale from Excellent to Poor based on the presence and visibility of polish features at 10x magnification.
